The healthcare system in Mexico has two main parts: public and private. The public part is for everyone and is mostly free or very cheap. It's run by the government and includes different programs like IMSS and ISSSTE for people with jobs, and INSABI for people who don't have insurance or make less money. Anyone who has a CURP, meaning all temporary and permanent residents, has healthcare. It is called the Institute of Health for Welfare (INSABI). A CURP is a unique code that identifies all Mexican citizens and residents.

The private part is where you can find really nice hospitals and clinics that might offer more services or have shorter waiting times. It’s worth noting that Los Cabos is one of the most popular medical tourism destinations in Mexico, with highly skilled medical professionals, leading cutting-edge technology and facilities, and significantly lower costs for major medical procedures.

People either pay for this with private insurance or by paying cash. It's a popular choice for people who want extra care or for visitors from other countries who come to Mexico for good medical care that's less expensive than in their home country like the US.

If you're a tourist, digital nomad, snowbird, or expat, it's crucial to have proper medical insurance that covers emergency care and evacuation. This plan ensures you get the necessary treatment and stabilization for medical emergencies, including medical evacuation until you can fly home. Remember, you must be stable enough to fly before you can be evacuated from the country. Medical costs can add up quickly!
