All in all, Travelers auto insurance is a good choice for drivers who prefer to purchase and bundle insurance policies from a company with a well-established history in the industry. The prices are already affordable, and the wide array of extra coverage options and discounts means you can customize your policy to suit your needs.

Travelers Home Insurance Review Highlights

Travelers offers coverage options for homeowners, renters and landlords, along with discounts for bundling multiple policies.

A Travelers homeowners insurance policy covers damage caused to your dwelling, or other structures on your property, by risks such as fire, hail, lightning, wind and vandalism. Homeowners insurance can also cover personal property replacement costs, though there are limits on luxury items like jewelry, designer watches and furs. While damage from water backup or overflow due to plumbing problems is covered by Travelers homeowners insurance, damage from floods, earthquakes and other risks may require additional coverage.

Renters insurance from Travelers protects your furniture and personal possessions against losses such as fire, lightning, windstorms, hail, explosions, smoke and vandalism. A renters policy can also protect your property against vandalism and theft, whether it’s damaged or stolen from inside your rental or anywhere else in the world.

Travelers offers landlords protection for their rental properties (generally those with one to four units), as well as any other structures on the property, such as garages and sheds. It also covers the landlord’s personal property, like furniture and appliances, kept inside a rental unit. The cost of medical bills, property damage and loss of use after eligible incidents are covered, too.

Overall, homeowners, renters and landlord insurance policies from Travelers are solid options, especially if you’re looking to bundle coverage with a car insurance policy.

Bottom Line: Is Travelers a Good Insurance Company?

Yes, Travelers is a good insurance company. In addition to affordable auto insurance for all types of drivers, Travelers also offers coverage options for homeowners, marine vessels, weddings/special events, travel, and small businesses. It has been around for more than 165 years, too, so it must be doing something right.

When it comes to car insurance in particular, Travelers impresses with an extensive list of discounts and strong coverage options. Travelers is also one of the few auto insurance companies that provide accident and violation forgiveness every three years, as well as a policy discount for hybrid vehicles.

Nevertheless, WalletHub’s editors give Travelers an overall rating of 4.2/5 because of its good scores in the customer service and claims departments. To learn more, check out WalletHub’s complete Travelers Insurance Review. You can also read some of the reviews from fellow consumers below.

I recently contacted my current home insurance company about a water leak under my floor. They had an adjuster reach out to me and conduct a complete video inspection of the area in question, and then they stopped responding to me. I haven't heard back from them in a week. There has been no reply to my emails or phone messages. This is completely unacceptable considering I pay for this service and they promptly collect the money they are owed each year. However, when I am in need, they are not available.

Worst company ever. They want to take your money every month, but as soon. You need to file a claim for damages beyond your control, they fight you and refuse to pay out. Then they drop you from coverage. Don't ever use this company; they are the biggest scam artists.

Called Travelers to request my preferred auto body shop for an estimate and repair. However, the adjuster informed me that Autonation Collision Center wasn't one of their partner facilities for estimates, so I followed their recommendation. Previously, I had obtained an estimate and repair for another vehicle at Autonation. Consequently, I visited their website to see who they were partnered with and, to my surprise, found Autonation Collision Center listed. This seems like a joke. It appears the adjuster is unaware of their partnerships. Additional training is needed.

Travelers charged me for comprehensive insurance for three years after I paid off my car loan. I know my lienholder informed them that the car was paid off. Travelers say it's my responsibility to notify them. They don't care about their customers.

Travelers Insurance is the worst! I accidentally tapped a large Chevy Silverado 2021 truck's rear right bumper with my compact Volkswagen Tiguan while backing up a narrow driveway during a snowfall. The truck was partially parked, blocking the driveway exit, and there was nobody in it. My car didn't even get a scratch on it and there was no damage. Unfortunately, a supposed family member filed a claim against me five days later and ended up getting a whole new bumper, tow hitch, and paint job. The truck never even had a tow hitch before I tapped it. It took the insurance company eight full days just to inspect the truck. Initially, they told us the damage was very minor and that it was the smallest claim ever. Nonetheless, it took from March 25th until May 10th, 2024 (when the claim finally closed). It took from April 29 until May 10 for the owner to get their truck back. I was then informed that the claim was over $1700, and the truck had been in the shop for two whole weeks! I was not provided with an itemized bill of the charges from the insurance, and the body shop refused to help me. I was advised to contact a lawyer to obtain the necessary information for an itemized bill. The representative, Pedro Gutierrez, offered the worst customer service I have ever experienced with car insurance. He did not respond to my inquiries for many days and seemed not to care. I do not recommend this insurance at all. I canceled my policy and am returning to Progressive.

Travelers Insurance dropped me after I had been doing business with them for 12 years. Two speeding tickets from separate individuals in my family of five were issued over a four-year period. There were no previous issues, and premiums were always paid on time. I appealed the decision but was told by two different individuals that the decision was final. It's a terrible business policy and a poor company decision. I was able to secure new insurance within 24 hours, which is unbelievable. I also had my homeowner's insurance with Travelers and immediately canceled it based on my experience with my auto insurance.

What a literal joke of a company. The one time I needed Road Side Assistance, they do not help. First, I asked them if it was okay that I left the car, which they approved of me doing. The next thing I know, the cops are at my door asking why I left my car on the side of the road. The tow truck that the insurance company sent out decided to take pictures of the car and said, “I am not towing this.” I did not receive a call or anything. The cops then told me that they were going to tow the car. This is an increased charge that I had to pay out of pocket for, $325. I called insurance asking for a reimbursem*nt, which they told me that they would cover all of the cost, great! Got a payment of $75, not even HALF of what it cost me. When I called to ask about it, they basically took it as a joke. I’m out $250. I pay an arm and a leg for insurance for them to treat me like this? What an AWFUL COMPANY. Would NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

I insured my home with Travelers for years. Had a hail storm that damaged my roof. Travelers claims adjuster claimed there wasn't enough damage, so they would only pay to repair some of them. My shingles are 20 years old and have been discontinued. I explained that I didn't want to have a Frankenstein roof with mismatched shingles, because it would hurt the market value of my home. They refused to pay, and then later non-renewed me when I refused to make the repairs.
Oh, and I happen to be licensed in P&C.
Do not, ever, insure your home with Travelers.

Wow! My car was hit by their insured. Approved for repair at their facility. In the middle, half of it was taken back because they can just do that. I had sent video, photos, spoke to them. Work parking lot is very clear in the direction of how a vehicle would back up. My video, photos and our testimony & Their approved repair facility estimates and photos were submitted. I was told they are accepting liability. I asked my for rental to be same size as what I have (had to call that day. Cause they didn’t) and to have it ready the following week. It’s been a couple weeks and now they have decided. Nope, we aren’t accepting all that we said. We will just repair some. HOW? You already had it, before the car was there. You already accepted, before the car was there? God. No wonder the reviews are like this. I asked to hear the recorded call - with us - because they said “you said…..” I said that’s not what was said, let me hear it. I had an email to back up that as well, with a photo (prior to them lying. Nope, they didn’t care. Really? Is it because the recording tells you exactly what was said?

We had Travelers for 10 years, and it was a terrible experience. For example, a large hailstorm hit our street; every other house with different home insurance companies reported damages, yet Travelers managed to claim that ours was the one house with no legitimate damage. On top of that, they decided not to renew our policy just because we made claims. I'm thrilled to no longer use Travelers.

I had been a customer of theirs for a long time, with my two vehicles, my motorhome, and my home all insured through them. I was in an accident when a young driver cut me off at a merge, and my car was the only one damaged. They attempted to charge me a surcharge, which I thought was unjust, and I contested it. Eventually, I won, and they were required to reimburse all the money they had charged me. Following that, they decided to cancel my insurance. Since they couldn’t cancel my car insurance, they targeted my motorhome insurance, claiming that the motorhome was too valuable and they couldn't afford to insure it. This was a 2002 motorhome, probably valued at $60,000, if that. Travelers Insurance has been very disappointing; I would advise caution in dealing with them or even insure any vehicles or home with them

Travelers has never paid for a loss due to an accident that happened nearly two years ago. It must be that upper management receives bonus money by not paying for claims.

The worst claim adjusters act in bad faith. With no proof, they denied my claim. I am with State Farm, and the at-fault driver is with Travelers. It's his word against my son's. The driver at fault had the mentality of a teenager; he did not know what to do. My son, who is only 26, took over. Of course, they are going to believe their own client so they don't have to pay out.

Travelers is so cheap because the company offers a wide variety of discounts that almost anyone can get. A minimum coverage policy from Travelers costs an average of $74 per month, and Travelers premiums can be made even cheaper by taking advantage of discounts such as continuous insurance discount and paid-in-full discount. Plus, Travelers rewards customer loyalty with discounts for insuring more than one car and bundling multiple policies, such as home and auto.

Travelers insurance rates go up by an average of 73% after an accident. Drivers who have Travelers accident forgiveness will not see their car insurance rates go up at all after their first accident in 3-5 years, however. Even if the accident can't be forgiven, it will only affect your insurance rate for 3-5 years, depending on your state.

The exact amount that premiums go up after an accident depends on a few factors, including who...
