Viking Message 5.05.24 (2024)

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of May 6 to May 10. All information in this message is also posted on the school website.

This week is OCS Educator Appreciation Week. I would like to extend a shout out to all OCS Educators and most especially WOHS educators and support staff and services. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.

Parents: White Oak will administer the Advanced Placement Exams from the 8ththru the 17thof May. The dates and times of the exams are set by the College Board and apply nationwide. AP students must be seated no later than 7:45am for designated morning exams, and, no later than 11:45am for designated afternoon exams. Students who arrive late at their test site cannot be admitted. There are no make-up opportunities for these exams. Students who are registered for a test and do not sit for that exam will be responsible for the $40.00 test fee. If your student has or is currently taking an Advanced Placement course this school year, please discuss with your student the importance of these exams and how they can be a benefit toward college.

In addition, parents and students, please mark your calendar for the following additional testing dates:

· HS NCVPS exams begin May 7 to May 10.

· NCExtend 1 Assessments May 29-June 11

· Teacher-made exams and final products begin May 31-June 5.

· State EOC and CTE final assessments begin June 6-June 11, with students being released early.

Students and parents, please pay close attention to absences and grades. Any student that has more than 10 Unexcused absences could potentially not receive credit for that course. Please make sure all notes have been turned into the office as soon as possible as we move toward the end of the 23-24 school year.

Parents it is Spring Survey season. Please take a moment to complete our parent survey to provide feedback for areas of improvement. You can access the link via the school website. Your assistance will be appreciated.

Yearbooks will be in very soon, the last day to order a yearbook is May 17.

Graduates interested in participating in the Class of 2024 Project Graduation Activity need to complete and return the permission form located in the front office by May 17. It is important to get this returned by the due date to determine the number of buses needed for the trip. You can also sign up for your seat which is first come first serve.

The dates for senior week are May 20 to May 24. Activities for senior week include the senior breakfast, senior picnic and senior walk. We are also going to include a senior sunset and movie night, kickball and yearbook signing. More detailed information will be given in the coming weeks.

Letters about graduation and other end of year activities were emailed to graduates last week. Parent and graduates make sure you check your student’s email. If you have questions or would like another copy, please reach out to Ms. Cassidy.
