Individual Contract
SOMALIA

  • To familiarize and assist in raising awareness among key stakeholders with the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, relevant ECOSOC documents, outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly and "Guidance note for comprehensive national-level reviews" for Beijing +30;
  • Assist the international consultant in carrying out desk review of documents relevant to the Beijing Platform for Action framework and for the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly, including but not limited to the national and civil society reports, analysis, charters, and policy papers;
  • Assist in identification and collection of primary and secondary data from relevant stakeholders, institutions, and sources to compile the necessary information as per the guideline;
  • Facilitate feedback sessions with relevant stakeholders and the Beijing+30 preparation technical committee in English and Somali;
  • Support in compilation and production of first draft of the Beijing+30 report based on the inputs collected from relevant institutions and other information sources;
  • Jointly with the international consultant present the draft report and facilitate consultations with relevant stakeholders from the government, civil society organizations, women and youth associations, the private sector, academia, and the media.
  • Work with international consultant to present the draft report and facilitate a validation workshop;
  • Assist the international consultant in incorporation of comments/feedback on the first draft, finalize the draft report and submit a quality report to the Ministry of Women, and Human Rights Development as per the standard reporting guideline and by the specified deadline.

This is an office-based consultancy based in Mogadishu.


Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in gender studies, development studies, law, international relations, human rights, public policy, sociology, anthropology
  • A [project/programme management] certification would be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • At least 6 years progressively experience in programmatic and/or analytical work experience in the field of human rights and gender equality;
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the field of gender equality policy and legal framework is required;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Somalia international commitments in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment (GEWE);
  • Demonstrate ability to plan, collect and analyses data and writing analytical reports;
  • Experience in writing reports to the UN treaty bodies, special procedures or similar reviews will be an asset.
  • Previous experience working with government stakeholders, will be an asset;
  • Excellent English communication and writing skills.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge in Somali is an asset;
  • Knowledge of [French] or [Spanish] or any other UN official language is an asset.
