Abstract:

The subjekt of the project is the building of a new secondary school in Barcelona, the place, which is typical with his regular piles designed by architekt Cerda. I projected the building with the respect of the shape of site. My tendency was to not only make a educational building for students, but also the cultural and social centre for local inhabitants. The site is conceived as a small city, which invites passers-by to a visit. The pleasant scale factor stayed on.

Abstract:

Four-and eight-year high school located in the heart of the Spanish city of Barcelona in place very easily accessible by public transport. Gymnasium is a direct result of an important transportation and cultural center of the city-Barcelona Diagonal, which turns on and binds both locally as well as conceptually and opens up to her room entrance and public inner courtyard. Expanding with new housing with the use of administrative costs in the current competition industriánímu character with a lot of production facilities and produces at a certain tension. Construction of a new high school significantly affects the position and will do so within the industrial district of the new feature. Whole quarter is undergoing rehabilitation and new construction of school it will enhance significantly. Architectural design Building footprint follows the historic buildings in the plan, "Cerda, trying to respond to the chaos inside the blocks and expanding modern world and shape it as clean and simple. Just as individual blocks form a mosaic plan Cerda and school as a whole offers a range of activities with a rich structure inside and works on similar principles. Relationship "and the whole" liberation shape and emphasis on the strength of a material without impairing the continuity of the whole city is a concept on which this project is based

Abstract:

Barcelona – Highschool Barcelona – Vallcarca Vallcarca is a city district with very special character, rugged topography, heterogenous social structure and two different scales of constructions. It is also an important pedestrian connection between park Güell and other city parks. Soon, its probable, that considerable changes will happen here. Except the highschool, the objective was to create on our land a quality public space for students and also for Vallcarca and if possible to reuse the building of the old school. The public square is surrounded by highschool building, used by Vallcarca inhabitants. New public passage between two levels is planned, for better connection between Güell and other parks. The hisgh school is planned as four pavillions with different height, connected between them by private courtyards or public street. Students animate the public space, walking among the school functions. The principal entrance is against the old school building, its an open-air vestibule, coverred by pergola. The height of pavillions reacts on the landscape and the scale of surrounding buildings. Inside, the pavillions are composed of two tracts – the classes and the gallery. Every pavillion has two stairs and the gallery is in contact with the courtyard. At the ends of gallerie are student loggias, used as entertainment space. The same purpose has the hall in the ancient stone mine. On the other side of the street, the old school building is used as restaurant, with its facilities in the new extension. The public space is limited on the south side by new construction of the library.

The blocks of the famous urban Plan Cerda closest inside in itself dramatic history of old industrial era, when they have called Barcelona " The Manchester Of Catalunya ". And here I ask myself the question. What does the word landscape in this environment? How to apply to old buildings and chimneys of the idea of the archetype of landscape? Abstract:

B+B Barcelona/master’s thesis/Iva Křikavová/studio of Ivan Koleček/2010 Urban Plan of Poble Nou district of Barcelona in the past was strongly defined, factory halls fully built the block, streets and squares had a clear structure. Industry terminated operations and adjacent diagonals became attractive for various companies, hotels and developers, who started to build. Thirty-storey houses with undefined environment, the structure is lost, chaos prevails. To preserve the character of the plan, the old and the newly formed buildings, became a clear definition of the school block. Definition of block one hundred years ago lay in the absolute middle of the courtyard, but how to behave now in 2010? The answer is to define a block with three houses, each of then has its function - school, sports, library and dining room. Among them are moving teachers and students, experiencing the way, change the focus away leaving behind the school building and coming to do sports, eat or read a book. Actual volumes, however, could not become the answers, they could not become to be an integrated bloc. The space between them must band them together to give a complete character, followed by the part-built and connect everything to each other, gain mobility system common to all three. The solution became a principle belts - belt bound outdoors, belt inner freedom (hall, path to the target classroom, a room) and the target belt in the form of classrooms, gym and multipurpose halls. Cerda Plan for unique compared to other rectangular nets are the squares that are created with cutting off corner of the block. Project in such an urban network should respond to this. What is the city block and cut off the corner? In a project for me is not a barrier to good regular layout, but instead of entering the city and its principles into the project and school responses to these special places. In all four corners is resulting in an open hall houses all over the floor, becoming an indoor view schools in cities and towns for school. The system is one exception, it is an existing church, which has not an ambitions to become something special and unusual, but is part of the whole. Each object has its own ledge. This has become a symbol of an element that turns the house imide to the courtyard and other buildings. It connects the building and the downstream area, it gives him character building, sport connects with an outdoor playground, building a library with a place for rest and home school with a place with trees. All three ledges are the same height, thus uniting the whole school, the whole block. Facades are open underneath, glazed, thus having a different character than the rest.

Abstract:

Xanthan is a polysaccharide widely used in food, cosmetics, and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) by polymer flooding. In polymer flooding addition of polymers increases the viscosity of the injection water used for oil extraction from the oil producing wells. It is desirable to take advantage of biopolymers in EOR, due to their biodegradability and easily accessible raw materials of low costs. By hydrophobically modifying xanthan the thickening properties may be improved, due to intra- and intermolecular interactions between hydrophobic side groups. In this master thesis xanthan was hydrophobically modified by grafting of octylamine using carbodiimide chemistry, applying a method adopted from the University of Le Havre, France. Properties of non-modified and modified xanthan samples prepared from two different start xanthans, from Kelco and Statoil, were studied by SEC-MALLS, intrinsic viscosity measurements, and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. In order to obtain xanthan molecules of a size suitable for these analysis methods, sonication was performed. Xanthan samples were sonicated for different times, and an obvious decreasing trend of the molecular weight and intrinsic viscosity as the sonication time increased was shown. Intrinsic viscosity dependence on molecular weight was in good accordance to previous reported results.Depolymerisation by H2O2 and NaOH prior to 1H-NMR analysis did not have the desirable effect on degradation of xanthan chains. The side groups were cut off, rather than breaking the β-1,4 bonds between the glucose units in the xanthan backbone. By comparing the grafting density of octylamine for an acetyl and pyruvyl free xanthan sample and xanthan samples with these groups intact, it was shown for the first time that more than half of the octylamine binds to the carboxylic acid of the pyruvyl group on the β-D-mannose of xanthan. Intrinsic viscosity determined by a single capillary viscometer was higher for modified xanthan than non-modified, while by a four-bulb shear dilution viscometer the opposite was shown. The intrinsic viscosity was shown to be dependent on shear rate by the four-bulb viscometer, and the intrinsic viscosities at zero shear for non-modified and modified xanthan was significantly higher than that determined by single capillary viscometer.

Abstract:

Abstract:

A b-coloring of G is a proper vertex coloring such that there is a vertex in each color class, which is adjacent to at least one vertex in every other color class. Such a vertex is called a color-dominating vertex. The b-chromatic number of G is the largest k such that there is a b-coloring of G by k colors. Moreover, if for every integer k, between chromatic number and b-chromatic number, there exists a b-coloring of G by k colors, then G is b-continuous. Determining the b-chromatic number of a graph G and the decision whether the given graph G is b-continuous or not is NP-hard. Therefore, it is interesting to find new results on b-colorings and b-continuity for special graphs. In this thesis, for several graph classes some exact values as well as bounds of the b-chromatic number were ascertained. Among all we considered graphs whose independence number, clique number, or minimum degree is close to its order as well as bipartite graphs. The investigation of bipartite graphs was based on considering of the so-called bicomplement which is used to determine the b-chromatic number of special bipartite graphs, in particular those whose bicomplement has a simple structure. Then we studied some graphs whose b-chromatic number is close to its t-degree.At last, the b-continuity of some graphs is studied, for example, for graphs whose b-chromatic number was already established in this thesis. In particular, we could prove that Halin graphs are b-continuous.

Abstract:

I introduce and define Quantum Chromodynamics. I describe various well-known nonperturbative techniques for calculating quantities from the theory and discuss their merits and deficiencies. I then motivate and define a non-relativistic formulation (NRQCD) of the theory. I discuss the mechanics of the extraction of numbers from numerical simulations, and present general arguments as to the expected form of these data. I present results and details of their extraction from simulations of heavy-heavy and heavy-light mesons using NRQCD. I compare these results with those from other calculations and with experimental data, where they exist. I make suggestions for further work. An appendix contains details of the code used in the simulation together with the input parameters of the simulation.

Abstract:

One of the main problems affecting the quality of life of citizens is traffic and traffic jam. Based on this problem, this report will investigate the current situation and verify the existence of this problem in the city of Lima, Peru. Likewise, a business idea will be proposed which will allow counteracting said condition. For that purpose, possible solutions were evaluated and recognized as an alternative means of transport to the bicycle, as the most appropriate micro mobility to attack this obstacle in our city. Mainly, the proposed solution that is offered throughout this report is the rental of bicycles belonging to habitants of Lima whom we will now call Landlords, to third parties called Tenants who will pay and access to said transports. In addition, this transaction would be carried out through a platform (application) that we will facilitate to contact bicycle applicants with people who want to rent their own. In order to validate and gather information, interviews and surveys were conducted that validated our hypotheses. Likewise, a price was set based on the base price of the competing companies. Finally, both financial projections and their analysis were made and finally, the viability was verified, in addition, the profitability of the project.

Abstract:

Flavor oscillations of neutral B mesons have been studied with e+e- annihilation data collected at center of mass energies near the [gamma](4S) at the PEP-II asymmetric collider with the BABAR detector. One B⁰ is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay to a flavor eigenstate. The flavor of the other B in the event is determined using an inclusive tagging algorithm which exploits the correlations between the flavor of the b quark and the charges of its decay products. By fitting the decay-time distribution of the observed mixed and unmixed final states, the oscillation frequency, [Delta]md, is determined to be 0.516 +/- 0.016 (stat.) +/- 0.010 (syst.) ps-l.

Abstract:

A new set of urban design requirements is proposed to replace the current urban design guidelines for the B. C. Place site in Vancouver, B. C. The site is 90.6 hectares of open area, contiguous to the downtown, it is the subject of extensive planning activities. The site has been chosen because it is free of most of the typical impediments that constrain urban planning in more congested areas of the city. Accordingly, a new way of expressing urban space is appropriate. To be valid urban design requirements must be conceived with a purpose in mind. The purpose, here, is the essential element of urban design, a shared vision of urban space. It must define, within a broad public consensus, a set of urban design requirements communicating, over an extended time period, a consistent vision of urban space.Six urban design requirements are set out to implement a shared vision of urban space. They have been reduced to a minimum to provide as much freedom of expression to the design professions as possible. They are under six headings: Interim Land Use, Site Development, Physical Form and Design, Environment, Occupancy, and Movement.Pivotal in the composition of the urban design requirements is an instrument called the Orthodox Surface Modulator, augmented by a Check List of architectural design elements. Together they become a metaphoric framework of reference, a part of the creative process within the development control system. The Orthodox Surface Modulator, as it is applied, describes the volumetric forms of building envelopes and the public urban spaces between buildings. It describes buildings and spaces to enhance public amenity. It may, under specific environmental circ*mstances, mitigate undesirable site conditions by describing building envelopes as buffer buildings, shielding passive urban space from noise and distractions.Urban Space is discussed. A Shared Vision of Urban Space, how it is evolved by public discourse, and a proposed Theory of Urban Space is explained. A critique of current urban development on Burrard Street, Vancouver, between Georgia Street and the waterfront explains why the present urban design guidelines, transfer of development rights and bonusing, have failed to produce the intended urban spatial amenity.Urban design requirements are not a new phenomenon. Only since the early 1970s have they taken on their present complex form in the City of Vancouver. A brief historic outline traces the antecedents of the proposed urban design requirements, placing them in context from early Greek attempts to rationalize optical distortion to the present day.The proposed application of the six urban design requirements and the Surface Modulator would be mandatory. The manner in which the elements of the Check List are integrated into the matrix of the Surface Modulator is proposed to be discretionary. The complete set of urban design requirements are intended to be used in a negotiating procedure common in planning practice.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Master of Science
Periodontal disease is one of the most widespread diseases in humans and is characterised by chronic gingival inflammation and B cell accumulation and resorption of the crest of alveolar bone with subsequent loss of teeth. Porphyromonas gingivalis has been identified as a putative aetiological agent for periodontitis. The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to investigate, using in vitro systems, the responses of autoreactive B-1 and B-2 cells to enterobacterial and nonenterobacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to shed light on the pathogenesis of chronic periodontitis and other diseases involving B cell accumulation and autoantibody production. The hypotheses tested were: (1) B cells respond differently to enterobacterial and non-enterobacterial LPS. (2) B-1 cells are activated by a lower concentration of LPS than B-2 cells. (3) LPS stimulation results in preferential accumulation of B-1 cells. Findings consistent with these hypotheses would provide new evidence for different roles for B-1 and B-2 cells in immune responses and that LPS stimulation could lead to B-1 cell accumulation in diseases thus characterised. Initial experiments investigated the responses of representative B-1 (CH12) and B-2 (WEHI-279) cell lines to preparations of P. gingivalis and Salmonella enteritidis LPS utilising flow cytometric and quantitative molecular methods. The cell lines responded differently to the two LPS preparations. There were significant but limited effects on viability and proliferation in the WEHI-279 cell line, but no significant changes in mRNA expression levels for genes including Toll-like receptors (TLR2, TLR4, RP105), immunoglobulin (IgM), cytokines (IL-6, IL-10), co-stimulatory molecules (CD80, CD86), and regulators of apoptosis (Bcl-2, Bax). In the CH12 cell line however, LPS stimulation had greater effect. Addition of S. enteritidis LPS from a threshold level of 100ng/mL was found to rescue the cells from death, reflected by the percentage viability and proliferation. Stimulation of CH12 cells with S. enteritidis LPS also led to a decrease in expression of RP105 mRNA, which may be part of a negative feedback loop. Interestingly, stimulation with low concentrations P. gingivalis LPS appeared to inhibit proliferation but high LPS concentrations stimulated proliferation of CH12 cells, although no further significant effects were noted in other analyses. Evidence was found that CH12 cells have a high basal level of activation. This suggests that this line is constitutively activated. Stimulation with P. gingivalis or S. enteritidis LPS did not affect the level of CD80 mRNA expression. It is possible that the CH12 line constitutively expresses a maximal level of CD80 (and possibly CD86) and further stimulation will not cause any increase. Since S. enteritidis LPS appeared to have more pronounced effects on both B cell populations, this LPS was used to further investigate B cell subset responses in a mixed splenocyte culture system. Experiments examining percentage viability and number of viable cells indicated that B-1 and B-2 B cells responded differently to LPS stimulation. A threshold level for B-2 cell response (significant increase in cell number) was found to be 100ng/mL LPS, in contrast to the B-1 B cell subset which were only significantly different to the unstimulated cells when stimulated with 50μg/mL LPS. By examining the expression of CD80, the majority of murine splenic B-1 cells were found to activated prior to any LPS stimulation in vitro. In contrast, the B-2 subset showed significant increase in CD80 expression only at high (≥10μg/mL) LPS concentrations. Studies of the division index of B-1 and B-2 cells showed a significant response in both subsets following stimulation with 1μg/mL and 10μg/mL LPS. However, overall, the results are inconsistent with LPS driving the preferential accumulation of B-1 cells in disease states. These experiments provided useful evidence that supported the idea that B-1 and B-2 cells respond differently to LPS. However, these studies were unable to directly address the role of P. gingivalis LPS in periodontitis. It may be that P. gingivalis LPS could have different effects to S. enteritidis LPS on primary B cells. It is still possible that B-1 cells may be more sensitive to P. gingivalis, as opposed to S. enteritidis LPS. Studies by other groups have suggested that the TH1/TH2 profile is skewed towards TH2 in chronic periodontitis and that P. gingivalis may drive this shift via its ability to signal through TLR2 (and modulate TLR4 signalling). Further, recent studies in our laboratories have found that P. gingivalis gingipains are able to polyclonally activate B cells and to break down both IFNγ and IL-12. Future studies should further examine the effects of B-1 and B-2 interactions in the mixed lymphocyte system together with subsequent studies utilising human periodontitis biopsies. The results presented in this thesis, together with work undertaken by other investigators, suggests that LPS could perturb the normal homeostatic mechanisms of the B-1 B cell-subset and increase polyclonal activation therefore contributing to the genesis of pathologies such as chronic periodontitis.

Abstract:

In May 2003 PEP-II achieved instantaneous luminosities in excess of 6 x 1033cm-2s-1, twice the design luminosity. To permit BABAR to operate in this challenging environment, development work on the data acquisition system continued after detector commissioning. A vital part of this process is understanding the performance of the data acquisition system. Considerable effort was invested in the design and implementation of an application capable of collecting performance statistics from hundreds of CPUs in the data acquisition system during data collection. The monitoring application and some examples of its operation are presented in this thesis.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Studies of platelet MAO-B activity have revealed a link between low platelet activity and psychiatric syndromes characterized by an inability to control impulses and to anticipate future consequences of behavior (Oreland, 1980; Gottfries, von Knorring, & Oreland, 1980). These characteristics are fundamental to the construct of psychopathy, and we might therefore expect that psychopathy is associated with low MAO activity. Indeed, some investigators have suggested that low platelet MAO-B activity is a potential marker for vulnerability to psychopathy (Schalling, Asberg, Edman, & Oreland, 1987). However, no study to date has directly examined the association between platelet MAO activity and psychometrically-sound indices of psychopathy. The present study measured platelet MAO-B activity in a sample of 54 male offenders, assessed with the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R; Hare, 1991). PCL-R scores were not significantly related to level of platelet MAO activity. The results are discussed in terms of methodological issues involved in conducting biochemical research.

Abstract:

ß-adrenoceptors have been classified into two subtypes, a ß₁-subtype found in the heart and a ß₂-subtype found in the vasculature. However, there is evidence that ß₁-adrenoceptors may also be present in the vasculature. We have examined the role of ß-adrenoceptors in the vasculature, first in the resistance blood vessels and second in the venous system. Firstly, we studied the effects of isoprenaline (mixed ß), isoprenaline plus ICI 118,551 (ß₁) isoprenaline plus atenolol (ß₂) and isoprenaline plus both ICI 118,551 and atenolol on haemodynamics in pentobarbital-anaesthetized rats using the radioactive microsphere technique. This study showed that ß₂- but not ß₁-adrenoceptor stimulation reduced total peripheral resistance (TPR) and mean arterial pressure (MAP). Both ß₁- and ß₂-adrenoceptor stimulation increased coronary and skeletal muscle vascular conductances. Secondly, we examined the effect of isoprenalineon MAP, heart rate (HR) and mean circulatory filling pressure (MCFP) in conscious rats. Isoprenaline was infused into intact, hexamethonium-pretreated or nor-adrenaline-pretreated rats. Our results show that under normal conditions, isoprenaline decreased MAP and increased HR and MCFP. Hexamethonium pretreatment did not affect the tachycardic and hypotensive effects of isoprenaline but it abolished the increase in MCFP indicating that this increase was due to reflex venoconstriction. Under conditions of high venous tone, isoprenaline decreased MAP and MCFP andincreased HR. Therefore, our results show that ß-adrenoceptor stimulation mediates direct venodilatation in the presence of a high venous tone and reflex-mediated venocon-striction under normal conditions.Paradoxical pressor responses to ß-adrenoceptor antagonistshave been reported in some clinical and experimental conditions. The mechanisms underlying this phenomenon are not known. We examined the conditions under which ß-adrenoceptor antagonists produced a pressor response. Firstly, we examined the haemodynamic changes which occur during α-adrenoceptor blockade by phentolamine, and after the development of the pressor response to ß-adrenoceptor antagonists in urethane-anaesthetized rats and in conscious rats. In urethane-anaesthetized rats, propranolol reversed the increase in conductance induced by phentolamine in skeletal muscle and skin and it also decreased renal vascular conductance. In conscious rats, propranolol or atenolol reversed the increase in conductance induced by phentolamine in skeletal muscle and in addition, it decreased conductance in the intestinal, renal and cutaneous vasculature. The inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme by captopril attenuated the ß-adrenoceptor antagonist-induced pressor response demonstrating the importance of the renin-angiotensin system in the production of this response. Secondly, experiments were done to investigate the effects of anaesthetic agents on pressor response to ß-adrenoceptor antagonists. Our results showthat anaesthetic agents have variable effects on ß-adrenoceptor antagonist-induced pressor responses. Urethane did not alter the pressor response to ß-adrenoceptor antagonists. Halothane and ketamine, on the other hand, attenuated the pressor response while ß-adrenoceptor antagonists did not produce a pressor response with pentobarbital, amobarbital or chloralose. It was further shown in pentobarbital-anaesthetized rats that phentolamine increased arteriovenous conductance and reduced MAP with no effects on other vascular beds and propranolol then did not have any effects on vascular conductance, TPR or MAP. An infusion of adrenaline partially restored the pressor response to both propranolol and atenolol showing the importance of adrenaline in the production of a pressor response. Thirdly. dose-response curves for propranolol, atenolol or ICI 118,551 in the presence of both noradrenaline and phentolamine were constructed in the isolated rat pulmonary artery. All three ß-adrenoceptor antagonists completely restored the phentolamine-induced relaxation response. Therefore, our in vitro and in vivo results are in accordance with a possible interaction of α-and ß-adrenoceptor antagonists which leads to subsequent stimulation of the α-adrenoceptors in the presence of adrenaline. The mechanism of this interaction is not clear. The results of in vivo studies show that additional factors such as the renin-angiotensin system may also be involved in this pressor response.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has constantly promoted sustainable tourism development as well as played an important role since 1980; in addition, numerous standards were regulated accordingly. Under the impacts of both environment protection, energy saving and carbon reduction, the marketing strategy of numerous operators have been changes consequently. The ecological or environment lodging facilities gradually adopted by the people in this trade; nevertheless, there are still not appropriate criteria of green B&B for domestic lodge industry to carry out related strategies. One of the major aims of this study is to establish the criteria of green B&B and index of feasible implementation, and constitute index levels with fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP), as the major basis of conducting survey of adoption willingness of lodge operator in implementing environment protection strategy. Next, this study intends to explore the current status of environment strategy implemented by B&B manager as well as the factors influence the adoption willingness. Third, find out any other factors and significance that could affect the adoption willingness of B&B manager to carry out strategy. Fourth, this study intends to locate the factors and significance of influencing consumer in accepting environment protection strategy (lodging willingness). There are three research targets employed by the design method of this study, namely, representative experts and scholars in the related domain, for presenting construct index and significance degree; research model establishment of B&B manager, the green B&B index are used for interview and questionnaire survey methods, so as to confirm the aim of this study; and finally the research model establishment of lodge consumer, through hierarchical regression analysis and relevant statistic analysis, to explain significant meaning and reason of variables. The research result proves that green B&B index can be simplifies into eight main dimensions and concrete strategies (management and marketing, social participation and communication, energy management, water resources management, green purchase, solid waste treatment, green restaurant and lodge activities, natural and cultural resources), for reference by verification unit. Secondly, in the research model of B&B manager, environment knowledge behavior would influence the self-efficacy, and further affect the adoption willingness. For operator, the higher the compatibility of environment strategy is, the higher of adoption willingness will be. Finally, in the research model of consumer, the higher the frequency that consumer engaged in the environment related activity, the higher the willingness of selecting green B&B will be; while environment knowledge behavior would affect the perceived caracteristics of innovation, lodge preference, and attitude of engaging in environment activity of consumer. This study defines the implication of promoting green B&B development strategy is “to educate B&B managers attach more importance on environment ethics, and encourage consumer to change the attitude of recreation activity.” Furthermore, with the conception of simplified green lodge index, to direct towards tourism map planning of ecology village, apart from the unique features of “green B&B” image, to minimize the impact of recreation environment. By employing innovation diffusion theory (IDT) model in the behavior prediction of environment behavior and tourism behavior strategy, the result of this study could be served as a useful reference for following researches.

Because of the rapid changes of the society, economy and the recreation patterns, comes up the kind of B&B(Bed and Breakfast), which is run in the method of family sideline and is connected with the local cultural heritages, ecology, environmental resources, and natural sceneries. B&B is a very competitive industry, especially in famous sightseeing areas. Besides the unique characters of each B&B, the location choices of B&B play more important roles. The study apples the Porter’s diamond model. Based on the interdependence between four leading elements and two variables, the appropriate methods to evaluate the competitive advantages of B&B locations will be figured out. Besides, multi-criteria decision making in ANP will be applied to build up the estimation models of the location choices of B&B, which can provide other decision makers the process to create the reference of the location choices of B&B.

Abstract:

It was the goal of the present work to synthesize a series of well-defined pentablock copolymers of styrene (S), [1]dimethylsilaferrocenophane (FS) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) by sequential addition of monomers. Lithium naphthalide was used as difunctional initiator and a 1,1-dimethylsilacyclobutane (DMSB) mediated 1,1-diphenylethylene (DPE) end-capping technique was applied to ensure high block efficiency. The PMMA-b-PFS-b-PS-b- PFS-b-PMMA systems have molecular weights of Mn = 50,000 g/mol, polydispersity indices of PDI ≤ 1.12 and PFS volume fractions of around φ PFS=0.15. First, the difunctional middle block of PS was formed, followed by triblock PFS-b-PS-b-PFS, which then - after appropriate end-capping - was employed as a macroinitiator to polymerize MMA, leading to the final pentablock copolymer. The block copolymers were characterized by SEC and NMR. Under optimum reaction conditions - i.e. when chain termination during DPE/DMSB end-capping is minimized - the pentablock copolymer was obtained in approximately 75 % purity: the crude product contained - in addition to the pentablock - some tetrablock (20%) and triblock (5%) copolymers. This raw material, however, could be purified by selective precipitation procedures which addressed the differences in polarity of the constituents. By that method, almost quantitative removal of the triblock was possible whereas a small amount of the tetrablock remained in the pentablock fraction. Fortunately the presence of such small amounts of tetrablock copolymers did not influence the pentablock copolymer micromorphologies in an irreproducible way. Thus, profound investigations were possible to analyze the bulk properties of the materials. The pentablock copolymers were examined with the help of TEM and SAXS for their microphase behavior. The self-assembly was studied starting from dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran and toluene solutions, after taking into consideration the solubility parameters. The formation of thermodynamically stable micromorphologies was forced by storing the solvent cast films in the saturated atmosphere of the corresponding solvent for 3-4 weeks followed by annealing at elevated temperatures 180 DegC - 220 DegC. Prior to this, it was ensured by TGA and DSC analysis that the pentablock copolymers are of sufficient thermal stability for this treatment. Annealing under various conditions followed by TEM analysis revealed good phase separation and the formation of highly ordered microstructures, such as spheres-on/in-spheres, spheres on lamellar interface, biphasic lamellar, cylinders and spheres on cylinders micromorphologies. These morphologies were further verified and supported by SAXS scattering profiles. Conductivity measurements on original and doped samples (I2 and TCNE) of PFS containing hom*o and block copolymers with/without microphase separation were carried out by dielectric spectroscopy (DRS). The maximum conductivity observed for the doped PFS sample (10-7 S/cm) decreased to 10-10 S/cm on dilution by domains of PS and PMMA in the block copolymers of various architectures.
