Winning the World Series of Poker(WSOP) 2024 $50,000 Poker Players Championship (PPC) is the pinnacle of a poker career. It cements the champion’s reputation as they become known as the one who conquered the toughest, deepest field on the poker calendar. Many professionals admit this is the title they desire most. After Day 4, that dream remains alive for just five players.

Chris Brewer, aided by a massive bust out of Johannes Becker at the final table, leads into the event’s final day with 10,465,000 chips. At one point, Brewer held more than a two-to-one chip lead over the rest of the field, making him the clear favourite for the biggest title of his already impressive career.

“It’s exciting. I’ve been really fortunate and had a lot of good runouts. I’m not going to think about it too much and just hope that continues. It would be cool to win, but I’m focusing on the next hand. I’ll worry about everything else once the tournament is over,” Brewer said after play concluded

Day 5 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship plays to a winner at 2:00pm with Chris Brewer leading the five remaining players.

Chris Brewer 10,465,000
Daniel Negreanu 7,635,000
Dylan Smith 4,030,000
Bryce Yockey 3,670,000
David Benyamine 900,000

Trailing Brewer is one of the game’s biggest stars, Daniel Negreanu, who has been chasing this title for nearly 20 years. Negreanu played in the inaugural event in 2006 and has returned every year since, but he has made it this far only once, finishing fifth in 2017. His last bracelet win was in 2013, and he hasn’t won one in Las Vegas since 2008. A late-night miracle catapulted Negreanu into second place with 7,635,000 chips.

Dylan Smith (4,030,000), Bryce Yockey (3,670,000), and David Benyamine (900,000) will try to catch the two leaders when the final five return to play tomorrow at 2:00 PM local time inside the Horseshoe Las Vegas Event Center.

Day 4 Action

Day 4 began with 12 players remaining from a starting field of 89. Michael Mizrachi was the first to be eliminated when he lost a hand of Seven Card Stud to Jeremy Ausmus’ trip aces, settling for 12th place. James Obst, the chip leader over the first two days, four-bet shoved for 2,540,000 with Ace-Jack but was called by Becker’s Ace-King, ending Obst’s run in 11th place.

Renan Bruschi (10th) and Joao Vieira (9th) followed, setting the eight-handed final table. Smith led at the start with 4,835,000 chips, and Brewer was in third with 4,355,000.

Two Poker Stalwarts Run Deep

Apart from DNegs, poker GOAT, Phil Ivey made a significant move up the leaderboard, sparking hopes for a run at his 12th bracelet. In a 2-7 Single Draw hand, Ivey bet 1,000,000, and Ausmus called with a 10-6, but Ivey had 8-7 to win the pot and increase his stack to 4,200,000. Ivey then took the chip lead from Brewer with top two pair in an Omaha Hi-Lo hand.

Brewer regained a big lead by making an 8-5 against Negreanu’s 8-7, pushing him past 7,000,000. He then flopped top set with aces, and Becker called off his last 2,200,000 with Aces and Tens, finishing in eighth place.

Ivey’s chips steadily declined until he was all-in with 1,110,000 against Smith in 2-7 Single Draw. Ivey drew a 9-7, but Smith caught an 8-7, sending the Poker Hall of Famer out in seventh place.

Negreanu made a No. 2 in 2-7 Triple Draw to knock Ausmus down to a short stack. Ausmus then caught a 7-6 to win a big pot off Benyamine, who soon doubled up against Brewer with 8-7-4 against 8-7-6.

The night was set to end with the next elimination. Smith seemed at risk after shoving his last 1,840,000 with King-Jack, but he spiked a King on the turn against Yockey’s Queens to double up and prolong the day.

A crucial hand saved Negreanu’s tournament when he made a straight flush against Yockey’s full house in Omaha Hi-Lo. Negreanu and Benyamine then quartered Ausmus, leaving him with just 300,000. Ausmus was eliminated on the next hand, concluding the day.

Day 5 begins on Level 24, featuring blinds 200K/400K limits and 50K/100K blinds in No-Limit and Pot-Limit games respectively. The remaining players are guaranteed $265,054, with the champion earning $1,178,703 and the prestige of winning this coveted title.
