Andrew V. Powers, 51, of 5 Geldar former Democratic town chairman and brother of Associate Justice William E. Powers of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, died yesterday at Baker Memorial Hospital, Boston. Mr. Powers was formerly an engineering consultant with C.

W. Riva Co. of Pawtucket. He had served as a deputy sheriff from 1941 to 1955. He was a member of St.

Thomas Council, K. of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick: Sons of Irish Kings; Pawtucket Lodge of Elks, and the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick's Church. He also leaves a wife Ruth (Bullock); a daughter, Mrs.

Ruth Fearns of East Providence; a granddaughter; three other brothers, Joseph C. Francis J. and Robert N. of Pawtucket; and two sisters. Mary Powers of Pawtucket and Mrs.

Celia Mac Martin of Jackson Heights, L.I, N.Y. He was active in Republican Party affairs, serving as chairman of the Republican City Committee. He was a former city solicitor and former district attorney in Middlesex County. White was a veteran of both world wars.

He served in the Army and was discharged with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a member and judge advocate of Lowell Post 87, American Legion; Kilwinning Lodge of Masons, the Lowell and Middlesex Bar and the Vesper Country Club. He leaves his wife, Edith (Sparks), and a sister, Mrs. Sophie W. Wing of Lowell.

Services will be at his home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Harry W. Thomas Of Melrose, at 79 parking area. The theatre closed June 12. Mrs.

Osborn Ball, Army Gets 19 Cape Civic Leader MELROSE Services for Harry W. Thomas, 79, of 143 East Foster retired cashier for the Boston Consolidated Gas will be held at Hillcrest Church here at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Thomas died Saturday at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

He was an employee of the gas company for 45 years. Born in Chelsea, he lived in Melrose for 55 years. He was a member of three Masonic and Hillcrest Church. Thomas graduated bodies, from Northeastern University, class of 1916. He leaves a wife, Mrs.

Carrie (Upton) Thomas, and two brothers, Norman T. of Marblehead and Earle A of Portland, Me. PROVINCETOWN Mrs. Etehl Archer Ball, 71, of 556 Commercial real estate agent and civic leader, died yesterday in Barnstable County Hospital, Pocasset. Mrs.

Ball, wife of Atty. S. Osborn Ball, was born in New York and lived here many years. She was a former secretary of the Provincetown Chamber of Commerce and the Provincetown Zoning Appeals Board and past president of the Provincetown Civic Assn. She dealt in real estate in Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown.

She leaves also two daughters, Mrs. Frederick Bakeland of New York and Mrs. John W. Sanford Jr. of Cooperstown, N.Y.
