CCLAY COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE2+ weeks agoAgencySomeone has already lost $500 today to scammers claiming to be our deputies. We've gotten multiple reports of scam calls since this morning. It's the same old "you missed jury duty and have a warrant" scam. They ask people to stay on the phone with them. For some, they've directed them to drive to our headquarters while staying on the phone. WE NEVER CALL ABOUT WARRANTS. We do not call and demand money. We do not accept bond payments electronically or through crypto currency or gift cards. Those are all bright, red scam flags.68Like43

With the first snow of the winter season and the cold that comes with it, this brings us to a topic that comes up this time of year. An increase in auto theft. Some figures put the increase in Auto thefts as high as 25% during the winter months. This has mostly to do with the warming up of cars, unattended. Here is some information and tips to avoid being a victim of auto theft. Do not leave your car running unattended - Every year, motorists have their vehicles stolen due to car warm-up thefts. Warm-up theft is the term that is used when someone steals a vehicle that is unattended and is warming up due to colder temperatures. It happens all the time people leave their vehicles unattended to idle and warm up giving thieves an opportunity to drive away with the vehicle. Not only is leaving an unattended vehicle not safe, but it’s also a waste of gas as most new vehicles no longer require a warm-up period prior to driving. By warming up unattended vehicles, victims are also making it easy for thieves to not only steal their vehicles but may also have access to homes as most car keys carry home keys on the same keychain and their garage opener is inside the vehicle too. Avoid getting your vehicle stolen due to early morning warmups and remember: •Do not leave any vehicle warming up and unattended. •Do not leave children or pets in an unattended vehicle. •Carry the garage door remote in your purse or leave it hidden in the glove box. •Make sure all doors and windows are locked while the vehicle is unattended. •Keep valuables out of sight, including in beds of trucks. If warming up your vehicle is something you still plan on doing just make sure you are in the vehicle while it warms up with the doors locked or by keyless startup.7Like1

CCLAY COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE2+ weeks agoAgencyOnce again, scam callers are posing as a member of our office (using a real employee's name he found on our web site) threatening to arrest those who won't pay up for a warrant. One resident even said the scammer told him to meet at the Sheriff's Office. We started receiving reports of this on Friday, and they continue today. At least one resident reported the call came from 816-320-4564. When you call that number, it claims to be the Clay County Sheriff's Office, and it even says to hang up and call 911 if it's an emergency. Don't fall for it. All of our phone numbers start with 816-407. (Keep in mind that some scammers can spoof phone numbers, however.) Scammers like this also will try to keep you on the phone and will be aggressive and threatening. Remember: * WE NEVER CALL ABOUT WARRANTS OR DEMAND BOND PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE. * The only place you can post bond is inside our Detention Center lobby at 14 S. Water Street, Liberty, Mo. There are a whole bunch of cameras in and around there, too. * We do not accept electronic payments, gift cards or crypto currency. * You can call us at 816-407-3700 to verify any suspicious calls like this you may have received.46Like12

KKANSAS CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT2+ weeks agoAgencyWe are seeing an increase in vehicle break-ins where firearms are taken. Just this past month, North Patrol Officers have responded to 3 reports of vehicle thefts within apartment complexes where handguns were taken. These vehicles didn’t show any signs of forced entry, so it is suspected those vehicles were left unlocked. More often than not, firearms stolen from vehicles are used in other crimes. We plead and beg that you do not leave your firearm in your vehicle even if it is locked. There is absolutely no reason to leave a firearm in a vehicle.25Like11

CCLAY COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE2+ weeks agoAgencyAfter months of investigation, deputies shut down fentanyl dealers in Avondale this weekend. On Sunday morning, our Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team served search warrants at 2703 N. Bellefontaine and 2701 N. Walrond. They found more than 105 grams of fentanyl inside, which is enough to kill about 52,200 people. They also found paraphernalia for packaging and distributing the drugs. Also in the house were meth, cocaine, five firearms and three suppressors. One of the firearms had been reported stolen. Garrett Moulder, 38, has been charged with two counts of drug trafficking, unlawful use of a weapon and theft of a firearm. Elizabeth Dye, 31, has been charged with one count of drug trafficking and one count of drug possession. Both are being held on $100,000 bonds.2Like2
