Can you mod Derail Valley? ›

Installed mods will be in your game folder, under Derail Valley\Mods. Every so often, a new version of Unity Mod Manger is available as well. It will update itself, but you need to update Derail Valley to that version, it won't automatically/forcefully update your game.

Jobs are how the player earns money in Derail Valley, with said income being used to pay off fees and buy licenses to take more risky and lucrative jobs. Jobs come in three different varieties: Freight Hauls, Logistic Hauls, and Shunting.

VR or non-VR? Both. Derail Valley fully supports playing on a regular PC, using mouse and keyboard on a flat screen, but virtual reality is where it really shines.

The game makes regular backups of your game inside of the same folder. If you can't load your game or want to revert your progress to a previous state, you can delete or rename the "savegame" file, and then rename one of the backups to "savegame".

Lighters can be purchased from shops for $150. Their main use is to ignite the firebox of steam locomotives by throwing one in, after which it will return to your inventory and can be used again. It can ignite flammable cargo leaking from damaged cars.

The key for the crew vehicle can be purchased in shops (later possibly only one shop), but you need to find the hidden garage first to unlock it. the only one I know of is the handcart you get by purchasing bobs garage key and opening said garage (located between machine factory and iron mine west).

A caboose is a specialized wagon, providing additional braking power and housing brakemen, who would watch for slack-action in the train and apply the brakes in case of a breakaway.

Passengers cars are used to carry passengers. They are not used for Jobs currently, and can only be spawned in using the Comms radio's Spawner Mode. Red, blue, and green versions exist. No visual change occurs when the Comms radio is used to load one with passengers, but the weight does increase by 6,000kg.

A locomotive is a rail vehicle designed to move rail cars meant for the transport of freight, passengers, or other things. There are currently seven locomotives featured in Derail Valley - the DE2, DH4, DM3, S282, S060, DE6 and BE2.

It is about 15,8km x 15,8km, its seems rather small for a rail game?

How to unlock trains in Derail Valley? ›

Earning or purchasing a license unlocks new features such as new locomotives to drive, hauling more cargo of different types and more job types. There are 22 licenses in the game, three of which are earned after completing the tutorial.

The locomotive remote is purchased in the shop at Machine Factory & Town. It is used to change the controls of a locomotive from outside the locomotive's cab.

If "Comms radio spawn mode" is turn on in the "game" submenu of options, the "Spawner" and "Cargo loader" functions are unlocked for use. The train spawner allows spawning in any car onto an appropriate section of rail. The cargo loader allows you to load cargo onto these spawned cars.

Adding mods to Stardew Valley can be very straightforward if there are only a couple you want to use. Many are installed just by placing the downloaded files in the "Mods" folder in your Stardew Valley directory.

As long as the mod doesn't state that it's recommended to start a new game for it then it should be fine. General rule: Mods that overhaul the asethetics are always fine to install mid game and to deinstall.

Most of these mods only affect the players who installed them. Other players won't be affected. If both players have the same mods, they'll see the same visual changes. The exception is Content Patcher farmer appearance mods that add, rather than recolor, the existing sprites.

Under the Stardew Valley installation folder, open the Mods folder. Unzip the downloaded mod files and drag the unzipped folders into the Mods folder. Then, you can launch Stardew Valley to enjoy the mods.
